Guacamole toast is a simple yet flavorful dish that combines creamy avocado with a hint of spice and tangy lime, all spread over crispy toasted bread. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a quick snack, this recipe is inspired by the vibrant flavors of traditional guacamole while keeping it easy and accessible for everyday cooking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ripe Hass avocados, peeled and diced
  • 1 red chili, deseeded and finely chopped (adjust for spice preference)
  • 2 medium spring onions, trimmed and finely chopped
  • 1 medium clove garlic, peeled and finely chopped
  • Juice of 2 fresh limes
  • Pinch of sea salt flakes (to taste)
  • Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Avocados

Cut the avocados in half lengthwise, remove the pits, and peel back the skin. Dice the flesh into small cubes and transfer to a medium mixing bowl.

Step 2: Add Aromatics

Finely chop the spring onions, garlic, and red chili. Add these to the bowl with the avocado cubes for a burst of flavor.

Step 3: Add Lime Juice and Seasoning

Roll the limes under your palm to release juice more easily before cutting them in half. Squeeze the juice into the bowl. Add a pinch of sea salt flakes and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

Step 4: Mash and Mix

Using a fork or spatula, gently mash the mixture until it reaches your desired texture—chunky or smooth. Combine thoroughly without over-mixing to preserve some texture.

Step 5: Assemble on Toast

Toast slices of your favorite bread until golden brown. Spread guacamole generously onto each slice (about 10mm thick). Serve immediately for best flavor!

Notes

Serving Suggestions:

Pair with poached eggs or smoked salmon for an elevated brunch option, or enjoy as-is for a light snack. Garnish with cilantro or chili flakes for added flair.

Tips & Tricks:

  • Use ripe avocados that are soft but not mushy for optimal texture.
  • Adjust chili quantity based on your spice tolerance. Rolling limes before juicing helps extract more juice effortlessly.

Storage & Reheating:

Store leftover guacamole in an airtight container with plastic wrap pressed directly onto its surface to prevent browning. Consume within 24 hours for best flavor. Toast bread fresh when serving leftovers; avoid reheating assembled guacamole toast as it compromises texture.
